Ontonix develops OntoNet™, the World’s first Quantitative Complexity Management (QCM) system. OntoNet™ is based on a patented approach which reaches beyond traditional pre-crisis technology. With OntoNet™ we identify the hidden sources of complexity and fragility in a business, a system or a process, with the goal of making it more efficient, more profitable and less vulnerable. Resilience is the name of the game.

Established originally in 2005 in the USA, Ontonix is now headquartered in Como, Italy. The unusual technology and solutions developed by Ontonix focus on countering what most threatens businesses as well as the global economy - the rapid and uncontrolled growth of complexity. Because highly complex systems are fragile and often function close to collapse, it is paramount to diagnose and manage complexity at all levels, ranging from businesses to markets, from national economies to the planetary scale. Since increasing complexity threatens not only the economy but also our critical infrastructures, our society, our civilization, it is imperative that Quantitative Complexity Management be embraced not just as a superior form of business intelligence but as the leitmotiv of modern management and governance.

Ontonix derives from 'ontology'. Ontology is the philosophical study of the nature of being, becoming, existence, or reality, as well as the basic categories of being and their relations.

Complexity is a fundamental physical property of every system and its importance is comparable to that of energy. Studying the nature of being, existence or reality is impossible without first comprehending complexity and its properties. A quantitative approach to the study of complexity allows us to see the intricate dynamics of natural as well as man-made systems in a totally new light.

'Ontonix' can be seen as 'computational ontology'. Just like 'mechanics', 'electronics' or 'photonics', 'ontonix' is a branch of technology and science. It is, in fact, a new branch of science.

Our complexity quantification tools allow us to tackle problems with hundreds of thousands of variables. For example, we measure and track the complexity of the following large-scale systems:

  • entire global economy
  • all of the World's stock markets and their interactions
  • sectors of airspace
  • all corporations listed on Wall Street
  • IT systems in banks

The analysis of similar systems often requires the use of supercomputers.
